Merry Christmas, Sugar!
Sugar cookies: a classic.
It's not the holiday season without decorating some sugar cookies! This year my sister and I tried a slightly altered recipe (less flour), and they turned out great!
I'll admit though - we cheated. Well, I feel like I cheated.
My mom had 2 cans of store-bought frosting... so ... we used it. Being resourceful, right? ;)
Sugar cookies are fun because everyone can be involved with the decorating!
Here's the recipe we used. Merry Christmas!
Sugar Cookie Cutouts
Ingredients
3 cups all-purpose flour
½ tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. salt
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 ⅓ cups sugar
2 large eggs
2 tsp. vanilla extract
Cookie cutters
Homemade or store-bought frosting
Food coloring (for frosting)
Directions
Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium sized bowl; set aside.
In a large mixer, beat butter until fluffy.
Add sugar and continue to mix for about 2-3 minutes.
Mix in eggs, one at a time, along with the vanilla.
Slowly incorporate flour mixture and mix until just combined.
Separate dough into thirds. Flatten and wrap in plastic wrap, then refrigerate for at least 1 hr.
Preheat oven to 350F.
Roll out dough to be about 1in thick, then use desired cookie cutters!
Place on ungreased baking sheet and bake for 9-11 minutes.
For harder cookies, bake the full 9-11 minutes. For softer cookies, take out about 1-2 minutes early (cookies will continue to bake on sheet even out of the oven!)
Decorate and enjoy!
