For Sale!

Not the cookies, silly! My house!

What helps sell a house? Baking cookies in the oven? That's what I heard. That smell of chocolate chip cookies in the oven while prospective buyers look through the house.... at least that's what Amy Adams says to do in "Leap Year". But what about giving away cookies as buyers come through the house?

We'll see if it works. Since I'm home from school and don't have much to do until summer camp starts, I decided why not make cookies that look like houses? And give them away! Yeah?

I'll let you know how it goes... and if it makes the house sell faster. Haha!

Anyways, if you would like to make house cookies of your own, it's really very simple. I've posted the recipe before during Christmas with the Frosted Sugar Cookie Cutouts, but this time you just need a house-shaped cookie cutter (or any shape, really. Whatever you want!).

Here's the recipe!

Sugar Cookie Houses

Ingredients

Dough

4 cups sifted all-purpose flour

1 tsp. baking powder

1/2 tsp. salt

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

2 cups sugar

2 large eggs

2 tsp. vanilla

Powdered Sugar Icing

1 cup powdered sugar

1/4 tsp. vanilla

1 tbsp. milk (plus about 3 tsp.)

Food coloring

Directions

Dough:

Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together.

Mix butter and sugar together using an electric mixer.

Mix in eggs and vanilla; reduce speed to low.

Gradually add in flour mixture.

Divide dough into quarters; flatten each into a disk.

Wrap each disk in plastic wrap; refrigerate until firm (at least 1 hr)

Preheat oven to 325F with oven rack in upper third.

Roll out dough after letting it sit out for about 10 minutes.

Cut out cookies with cookie cutters; place on baking sheet.

Bake for about 15 minutes (until edges are lightly browned)

Allow to cool before decorating.

Icing:

Combine powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk together.

Add more milk, 1 tsp. at a time, until icing has reached desired texture. (test by dipping fork into icing and seeing if it runs smoothly)

Separate into little bowls and add food coloring to make desired colors.

Decorate!
