Superbowl Sunday
Who do you want to win?
I don't really have a team... I'm kind of impartial. But these cookies were really fun to make!
I made them for a my mom's Super Bowl party at work.. and hopefully they'll be a hit! haha.
They weren't too difficult to make at all... just a little time consuming with the decorating and making all of the different colored icings.
You can use this recipe with any type of sugar cookie you want to make, as long as you have cookie cutters!
Enjoy!
Super Bowl Sugar Cookies
Ingredients
Cookies:
1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking powder
3/4 (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
2 tbsp. vegetable shortening
2/3 cup sugar
1 lg. egg
1 tsp. vanilla extract
For icing:
2 cups confectioners sugar
2 lg. egg whites
2 tsp. milk
food coloring
Directions
Cookies:
Combine flour, salt, and baking powder in medium bowl; set aside.
Beat butter, shortening, and sugar together; Add in egg and vanilla.
Add in flour mixture until just moistened.
Wrap dough in plastic wrap and place in refrigerator for about 2 hours (or until firm).
Remove dough from fridge, and on a lightly floured surface, roll out dough.
Use desired cookie cutters to cut out shapes and place on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake at 325F for about 9-10 minutes (until edges are slightly browned).
Allow to completely cool before icing.
Icing:
Whisk together sugar, egg whites, and milk until smooth and slightly thickened (about 5 minutes).
Determine if you want the icing to be more thick or thin, and either add more powdered sugar (for thicker consistency) or milk (for thinner consistency).
Use food coloring to make colors as desired.
Decorate!
