Sugar Cookie Cutouts
The holidays are not complete without sugar cookies.
Plus, they're really easy to make, and a lot of fun to decorate!

Sugar Cookie Cutouts
Ingredients
Dough
4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
2 cups sugar
2 large eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
Powdered Sugar Icing
1 cup powdered sugar
1/4 tsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. milk (plus about 3 tsp.)
Food coloring
Directions
Dough:
Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together.
Mix butter and sugar together using an electric mixer.
Mix in eggs and vanilla; reduce speed to low.
Gradually add in flour mixture.
Divide dough into quarters; flatten each into a disk.
Wrap each disk in plastic wrap; refrigerate until firm (at least 1 hr)
Preheat oven to 325F with oven rack in upper third.
Roll out dough after letting it sit out for about 10 minutes.
Cut out cookies with cookie cutters; place on baking sheet.
Bake for about 15 minutes (until edges are lightly browned)
Allow to cool before decorating.
Icing:
Combine powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk together.
Add more milk, 1 tsp. at a time, until icing has reached desired texture. (test by dipping fork into icing and seeing if it runs smoothly)
Separate into little bowls and add food coloring to make desired colors.
Decorate!
