Garbage Disposal/ Trash/ Compost Cookies

Call them what you want. They're still delicious.

There is this bakery called Cappellino's Crazy Cakes at the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville, and back when there wasn't 3024 inches of snow on the ground, my friend and I ventured downtown... and fell in love.

It is the best $1 (for a cookie) or $2 (for a cupcake) you will ever spend. Seriously.

The cupcakes are so cutely decorated and the cookies are AMAZING. I tried so many.

Yes. They give samples.

But anyways, one cookie I was too afraid to try.. but definitely caught my eye.. was their garbage cookie. Now... I feel bad because I don't remember Cappellino's name for it exactly... because after I saw the cookie there I looked them up online and found SO many different names for them. Some include trash cookies, garbage cookies, garbage disposal cookies, everything but the kitchen sink cookies, compost cookies, etc.

However, I was inspired. So I tried to make some of my own.

Now the beauty of garbage cookies is that you literally can put anything and everything in them. I've heard of using pretzels, m&ms, potato chips, chocolate chips, heath bar crumbles, walnuts, pecans, etc.

The batch I made includes potato chips, peanut butter pretzel sandwiches, chocolate chips, and walnuts. And I'd say they turned out pretty well.

The only thing I found a little difficult with these cookies was that they're a little time consuming. You have to chill the dough before you bake them... otherwise they will fall apart :)

Now I'm sure they're not as good as Cappellino's... but they tasted pretty good to me!

Here's the recipe!

Garbage Cookies

Ingredients

1 stick unsalted butter, cubed

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup and 2 tbsp. packed brown sugar

1/2 tbsp. corn syrup

1 tsp. vanilla

1 tsp. baking powder

1/2 tsp. baking soda

1/2 tsp. salt

3/4 cup peanut butter pretzel sandwiches (broken), potato chips, and walnuts

3/4 cup chocolate chips

Directions

Cream butter, sugars, and corn syrup in standard mixer on medium-high until fluffy.

Add egg and vanilla. Mix about 6 minutes or until sugar has dissolved and butter has been completely mixed in.

Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt in small bowl.

Add flour mixture to mixer; then add mix-ins (pretzels, choc. chips, etc.)

Refrigerate dough for about 30 minutes (or until hard)

Preheat oven to 375F.

Place cookies on ungeased cookie sheet and bake for 9 minutes.

Makes about 2 dozen cookies.
